NEFU focuses almost exclusively on federal farm policy. One notable exception is our commitment to defend cooperatives from any attempts by state legislatures to weaken or dilute the benefits of the cooperative form of conducting business. We have defended against changes to state laws that eliminate statutory requirements essential to traditional co-operative values such as member ownership, control and financing and distribution of benefits to members based on their patronage.
NEFU works on the federal farm bill to win effective policies and programs that serve the small, mid-sized and diversified family farms of New England. Read more about our farm bill work here. As soon as the farm bill is passed, NEFU will shift its focus to farm bill implementation. We comment on proposed rules, meet with USDA officials and communicate with our delegation about how programs and policies are being implemented on the ground.
Please contact your Congressman today. Tell them that when the recess is over, they need to bring the 2012 farm bill to the House floor and pass it.
