Send a Farmer to Washington

L-R J.D. DeVos, Cheryl DeVos, Penny Jordan, Senator John Kerry, Susan Phinney, Annette Higby and Nanne Kennedy at the April 2012 fly-in.

Decisions are being made in Washington about

  • food safety,
  • land and farm conservation,
  • co-operative development,
  • local food systems, and
  • nutrition for our nation’s children.

It is more important than ever that the 35 members of New England’s congressional delegation hear directly from farmers about how their votes affect our region’s farms, environment and economy. With five members of Congress from New England on key committees, we have an unprecedented opportunity to have an impact on federal agricultural policy during the upcoming debate on the farm bill.

New England’s perspective on agriculture is traditionally underrepresented in Washington, but New England Farmers Union is changing that. The twice-a-year fly-ins coordinated by National Farmers Union provide us with an opportunity for our members to go to D.C., walk the halls of Congress, meet with government officials and tell them our concerns for New England agriculture and fisheries. Your donation will help cover the travel expenses of farmers and fishermen. Their personal stories will help make clear to our region’s lawmakers the importance of supporting policies that preserve our farms, our environment and our economy.
